More About Us as humans

Hey, folks. We are Alex and Dan, ESL teachers - currently in Moscow.
A few years back we started an online speaking club with a flipped-classroom approach. We worked with real-world videos that used language that’s actually used today, developed students’ awareness to it and got them using it too. We loved it.

We are so proud of it! In fact, we still run multiple speaking clubs throughout the week based on our real-world topics and materials.

Something we noticed about many of our students is that they were also teachers.
Just like us - they were passionate about the profession and were dedicated to ensuring we got the most from our students (no easy task!).

There was also one crucial thing that we had in common - we all lacked time.
The one thing we definitely aren’t getting back! It’s precious to us all - but particularly to teachers!

These teachers loved the lessons we used in our classes - interactive, geared towards activating speaking skills and rich in lexis that’s being used in the world today. In fact they liked them so much, they started asking to buy our worksheets to use with their own classes. But there was one problem…we didn’t expect that to happen so we didn’t write answer keys or teacher’s notes 🤦‍♂️

Fast-forward to now and we are better-prepared and feeling good!
We are so excited to announce that we will be sharing our lesson plans, worksheets and teacher’s guides with you too. Slowly but surely we are adding those answer keys and teacher’s guides to them all and will begin releasing them one by one for you to buy and use.

We know how precious time is and we want to save yours too.

Here, we’ll not only be sharing our latest ESL lesson plans, but also ideas we learn, as well as tips to develop your own authentic materials from scratch and how to work with the course book (the one you HAVE to use).
We look forward to sharing this trip with you and keep your eyes peeled for our first lesson plan.

What is our goal? Why do we write materials?

Well, firstly, we love it. We are those people that enjoy suffering 😂 I’m kidding, because actually, the whole process once laid bare is rather fulfilling.
But our goal is really to provide materials that busy ESL teacher’s can use in their own classroom; whether it’s an actual classroom, an inline class or flipped lesson.
We aim to provide a way to save teachers time, while providing quality materials based on authentic material.
We also aim to support teachers with their own material writing - how to write it better, how to ask better questions and get better outcomes for their students.
We want to share our expertise with you and also share what we learn too. Just like learners of English, we are continually studying. The varieties of English change and evolve - and so too must the way we deliver it.
We want to stay at the top of our game by continually working with professionals in the field and sharing nuggets of information for our wider audience.

Finally, we want to share that it’s not as daunting as you may think. We have a lot of fun doing what we do and want to share that with you too.

ESL Lesson Plans, by ELT Moscow, is an online resource and dedicated to ESL teachers and professionals with teenage or adult students. It is run by Alexandra Calver and Dan Calver from ELT Moscow, an online language school based in Moscow, Russia. Alex and Dan are Cambridge CELTA-qualified ESL teachers with over 10 years. They fully understand the time constraints that teachers have in this industry so went about helping out some colleagues.

The goal of ESL Lesson Plans is to provide engaging content to make life easier in the challenging role as an ESL teacher, by creating high quality English lesson plans that can be downloaded and used instantly. Each lesson uses a lexical approach to introduce language and continuous opportunities to discuss the topic.

The lessons are intended to give students a chance to develop their English language skills using real-world, authentic video material. We’re confident that the lesson plans and video topics found on ESL Lesson Plans will be useful for teachers as well as engaging and educational for students.
